He’s the winner of Gerber Photo Search 2024 and our newest Gerber Baby & Chief Growing Officer. Sonny is an adventurous eater, loves playing with his big sister and is a big football fan! We can’t wait to see all that Sonny will accomplish this year.

Sonny’s parents describe him as having a bright smile, joyful personality and sunny disposition that brings light even on cloudy days.
What are some of Sonny's favorite activities?
Sonny loves his squishy ABC Book, toy cars, and playing with his toy pots and pans while his mom cooks dinner. Living in Arizona, Sonny gets lots of time outside and likes playing on the splash pad. One of his favorite family outings is visiting the local kid-friendly museums around Phoenix.
What makes Sonny laugh the hardest?
Sonny can’t help but giggle when people make funny faces at him. Peekaboo with his sister and tickles from his family make him laugh endlessly.
What is Sonny's story?
Sonny’s mom and dad, Dominque and Akil Sr., both grew up in New York. When they first met, they connected over their love for community service, often volunteering together. Today, Akil Sr. works as an entrepreneur and in the financial aid department at a trade school in Arizona, helping aspiring professionals receive higher education. Dominque recently secured the best job in the world – being a stay-at-home parent to Sonny and his big sister, Sage!
Sonny was named after his dad, Akil Sr., but got his nickname while his mom was pregnant. She was sitting inside and noticed a bright beam of sunshine streaming through the window directly onto her belly. She immediately thought, “That’s my little sunny boy!” That cemented Sonny’s nickname ever since.
Sonny’s parents continue to dedicate themselves to their community and hope to instill these values in both of their children. They are raising Sonny and Sage to demonstrate kindness, respect others, be resilient and lead by example. They also hope to always encourage Sonny’s bright, infectious smile!

"Isa’s year as the Gerber Spokesbaby and Chief Growing Officer was incredible. Our experience was exciting, supportive, educational, and we have so many great memories of that journey. The Gerber Family supported our family during major milestones in Isa’s life and we are forever grateful that we were able to share Isa’s story with the world." |

2020 Gerber BabyMagnoliaMagnolia, now 5 years old, continues to be the sweetest little girl. She’s happy and kind and loves to play with her friends and sisters. "Magnolia was announced as the Gerber Baby Contest Winner in May of 2020. The pandemic had changed everything so dramatically and we were all in need of some good news. The celebration of her winning and the months that followed were a great source of joy." |
2019 Gerber BabyKairiKairi radiates positivity to everyone who meets her. From her photo in 2019 to now, she continues to shine brightly and entertain everyone around her with her standout personality. "Kairi Yang was a Gerber baby in 2019. We as a family and in the Hmong community were proud and full of joy being part of Gerber. Aside from enjoying all the yummy food and snacks, we were able to learn from the bottom up where Gerber plants their produces in Michigan, greetings from their main office, and most of all meeting the wonderful workers of Gerber. We are forever thankful. Being part of the panel, this year was extraordinary! We love seeing all the cute photo of every babies. It was such a difficult decision to just have one finalist. Congratulation to the Gerber baby of 2024 and remember “every baby is a Gerber baby." |

Now almost 8 years old, Riley enjoys everything there is to do in Orlando, Florida with his mom, dad and little sister Mia. "Having Riley as the 2017 Gerber baby was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The Gerber family accepted us with open arms and celebrated many milestones from first steps, to a gender reveal of Riley’s sister, to Riley’s first baseball opening day. It was an honor to have Riley represent Gerber. It was a year we will never forget." |

2012 Gerber BabyTateTate originally enamored Gerber with his smile and bright blue eyes. Now in his teen years, he enjoys spending time with his two little brothers and occasionally showing pictures from his time as the Gerber baby to his friends in Austin, Texas. "When we entered Tate in the Gerber contest, we didn't even know what the prizes were and didn't have any idea there would be so many other beautiful babies. Now that our Gerber "baby" is a teenager, college is on his horizon and this scholarship feels like even more of a blessing. We are so proud of the young man Tate's growing up to be and can't wait to see what his promising future holds." |
